“Chemical Abortion Pills kill, and the number of victims from such deadly drugs is really adding up,” said Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins. “Protecting vulnerable women and girls from injury, infertility, and death, as well as from abusers, who use the two-pill concoction against mothers without their knowledge or consent is a growing concern. When you add the risks to the environment and our drinking water, Kentucky’s right to protect all exposed to the pills is clear. Students for Life Action salutes the leadership of Rep. T.J. Roberts and endorses HB 316 and SB 106.”

FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY (02-27-2025) –Time is running out for Kentucky Speaker David Osborne and the Judiciary Committee Chair Rep. David Elliot to hold a hearing and call for a vote on HB 316, An Act Relating to the Protection of Unborn Children, by Friday, March 7. Students for Life Action (SFLAction) supports Kentucky legislators in anti-Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking efforts in both the Kentucky State House and State Senate. We urge Kentucky Speaker David Osborne to do the right thing for born and preborn life in Kentucky and grant HB 316 a hearing.

“Keeping Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking out of the Bluegrass State is vital for the safety of the citizens of Kentucky and their families. We urge Speaker Osborne and the Judiciary Committee Chairman to give HB 316a hearing,” said Hawkins.

Kentucky has the responsibility to protect the health and safety of its citizens, but State House leadership is stalling and failing to act by not giving this bill a hearing, thereby turning a blind eye to the health and safety of its citizens targeted by pill traffickers.

Fighting Chemical Abortion Pill trafficking is not limited to the State House; it is also a fight in the State Senate. Pro-life champion Senator Steve Rawlings has spearheaded a companion bill, SB 106, An Act Relating To The Protection of Unborn Children. SFLAction urges both bills to be granted a hearing since leadership has failed to give either bill a hearing in the State House or the State Senate.

HB 316 will prevent dangerous Chemical Abortion Pills from being trafficked into Kentucky to target vulnerable young women who aren’t fully informed about the risks,” said Rep. Roberts, the bill’s leading sponsor.

Roberts is relentlessly fighting to protect preborn babies from illegal Chemical Abortion pill traffickers outside the state by urging the House Speaker to give this bill a hearing.

“We need to save the lives of preborn babies and protect the health of young women in Kentucky by shutting down this deadly trafficking operation,” said Roberts.

Protecting Kentucky citizens from the deadly effects of Chemical Abortion will save lives. Exposing environmental concerns resulting from Chemical Abortion Pills is a battle that SFLAction and our sister organization, Students for Life of America (SFLA), have been fighting for quite some time:

  •  SFLAction submitted a letter to Congress, alongside forty other pro-life leaders, to demand the EPA conduct regular and comprehensive environmental testing of PFAs just like any other “forever chemical.”
  • SFLAction submitted a legal analysis to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with detailed reasons to track Chemical Abortion Pills.
  • SFLAction filed an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court for the  Food & Drug Administration (FDA) v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine.
  • In multiple states, SFLAction has lobbied to introduce and ensure passage of laws that would protect the environment from pollutants in Chemical Abortion Pills.
  • Additionally, we submitted four petitions to the FDA demanding they:
    • Add Red Bag Medical Waste requirements to reduce Chemical Abortion Pill pollution.
    • Restore high health and safety standards (known as REMS– Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies) to protect women’s lives.
    • Comply with the Clean Water Act by requiring protection for water, especially recreational water.
    • And now, halt the relabeling of Chemical Abortion Pills.

Gen Z and Gen Y registered voters strongly support this type of legislation, as reported in the Pro-Life Generation’s Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement YouGov/Survey USA poll released in January.

  • As noted in the poll’s executive summary, Chemical Abortion Pill protection efforts to protect lives, fertility, and the environment are wildly popular with younger voters, with more than nine in 10 embracing protections.
  • Ultrasound screening to save lives from ectopic pregnancy: 92% feel it’s important to have screenings before distributing the deadly pills, with 41% saying its extremely important
  • Blood testing to protect fertility: 92% support this protection with 39% saying it’s extremely important
  • Studies on the potential environmental impact of waste and drugs related to abortion: 90% support conducting such testing, with 32% saying it’s extremely important
  • Red Bag Medical Waste disposal to protect the environment: 90% support this addition to the health and safety standards, with 33% saying it’s extremely important
  • In-person care/screening to protect from abusers getting the pills without women’s knowledge or consent: 66% support this common-sense protection
