“Margaret Sanger’s racist and eugenic agenda taints the organization she founded, Planned Parenthood, even today, as Corporate Abortion admits. Her legacy of minority lives ended in the millions should be studied and condemned but never honored,” said SFLAction/SFLA President Kristan Hawkins.

WASHINGTON D.C. (05-21-2021) – Students for Life Action/SFLA President Kristan Hawkins commended Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) for his letter this week calling on the Smithsonian to remove a bust of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger from its place of honor in the Smithsonian. Sen. Paul rightly notes that Sanger has no place alongside Civil Rights heroes such as Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King, Jr. Students for Life has long called on the Smithsonian and other locations honoring Sanger to remove her accolades because of the racist impact of  the abortion industry that she helped establish.

In announcing SFLA’s Strike Out Sanger campaign last summer, Hawkins noted: “Margaret Sanger’s intense campaign to push contraception and the abortion mentality on minority communities to ensure that fewer black babies would be born deserves our condemnation and demands that she be removed from places of honor. In private, she was direct in saying that black babies should never be born, writing, ‘We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.’ In addition, she appointed Lothrop Stoddard to her Board of Directors and worked closely with him, a public racist, who became the best-selling author of The Rising Tide of Color Against White World Supremacy.”

Margaret Sanger is honored in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery and at Margaret Sanger Square in Manhattan and a Margaret Sanger Statue stands in the Old South Meeting House in Boston, MA., which ironically enough is on the Freedom Trail commemorating the Revolutionary War. And those are just a few of the locations that commemorate Sanger.

Writing in USA Today, Hawkins observed: “The vast majority of the abortion vendors have set up shop in minority neighborhoods, which can be seen in the scarce statistics available at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Though they are only 13% of the female population, African Americans made up 38% of all abortions tracked in 2016.”

Students for Life has also set up a Black Preborn Lives Matter Project in response to the devastation of abortion has imposed in minority communities. Learn more herehere and here.
