In Arizona, SFLAction worked to introduce HB 2810 and HB 2811, a Life at Conception Act and a Chemical Abortion Ban. This represents our ideal “two-punch” strategy to abolish abortion in a state!
As Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins has stated: “The pro-life movement has always owned its goal of abolishing abortion in our lifetime. And by that we don’t just mean stopping late-term abortions, abortions after viability, or the infanticide of children who survive abortion attempts. We mean protecting ALL children from the moment of conception. And protecting children and women from Chemical Abortion is a crucial step toward that goal in this moment. Chemical Abortion is dangerous for BOTH mother and child, and Arizona is taking an important measure to protect those they are sworn to represent.”
Although our Life at Conception Act failed to move forward due to not receiving a committee assignment, SFLAction moved forward in redoubling our focus on our Chemical Abortion Ban, which passed out of committee!
Students and SFLAction team member Savanna testified and met with legislators at the Arizona capitol to share support for the bill and share information about the dangers of Chemical Abortion with legislators.
We also generated over 1,000 emails into legislators in support of this legislation by contacting Arizona constituents.
We are extremely disappointed to report that because of three Republicans voting against our Chemical Abortion Ban, it has failed to pass the House. Women and babies will continue to be in danger in Arizona because of Representative Regina Cobb, Representative Joanne Osborne, and Representative Michelle Udall’s failures to vote “yes” on HB 2811.
To be clear, supporting abortion and opposing pro-life bills (but we repeat ourselves) is a betrayal of explicitly-stated Republican Party values. The Platform, for the pro-abortion Republicans who evidently need a refresher, states:
“[W]e assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to children before birth.”
The Platform goes on to denounce such atrocities as taxpayer funding of abortion and the abortion industry and discriminatory abortions targeting children just because of their sex or disability, and acknowledges the importance of nominating judges who recognize the humanity of all Americans — born and preborn. The Republican Platform also highlights the abortion extremism of the Democrat Party, calling out its “almost limitless support for abortion” and “strident opposition to even the most basic restrictions on abortion” and saying, “We are proud to be the party that protects human life and offers real solutions for women”
The Pro-Life Generation seeks protection at conception for the preborn and is planning to run a pro-life accountability program in states across the country, including in Arizona, where politicians who claim to be pro-life, fail to protect the preborn and support legislation to save lives.
