Congratulations to SFLAction’s May Pro-Life Gen Leader of the Month, Senator Steve Daines!
Today we are recognizing U.S. Senator Steve Daines from Montana as our Pro-Life Gen Leader of the Month to applaud his outstanding legislative work for the pro-life movement!
Earlier this month, Senator Daines engaged in a live discussion about Chemical Abortion with Students for Life Action President Kristan Hawkins and even co-authored an op-ed with her about the harsh reality of these pills.
Senator Daines is a consistent and reliable pro-life champion, opposing the nomination of abortion advocate Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) and fighting to stop taxpayer funding of abortion clinics in the COVID relief package. In fact, he even attempted to add the Hyde Amendment to this relief bill, which would have prevented taxpayer dollars from funding abortions.
Senator Daines also founded the first Senate Pro-Life Caucus in 2019 and continues to serve as the chairman. Upon creating the caucus, the Senator said, “I saw that we did not have one and I saw we needed it. This will allow us to bring the pro-life groups that work off the Hill, as well as pro-life senators and other staff on the Hill, to unify us so we’re all pulling in the same direction to advance the pro-life cause.”
Under his leadership, the Senate Pro-Life Caucus recently gathered colleague signatures on a letter from Senator Ernst to Secretary Becerra in opposition to the proposed Title X policy that would eliminate the “Protect Life Rule,” forcing taxpayer dollars to fund abortion.
Additionally, Senator Daines spearheaded the initiative to craft a letter pledging to vote against any bills that would eliminate the Hyde Amendment or otherwise weaken current law pro-life protections. This letter was signed by 47 other Senators.
Senator Daines has also been a vocal opponent of discriminatory abortions performed on babies diagnosed with Down syndrome in the womb, pushing for legislation to protect this innocent population.

- S.Res.207: A resolution designating the week beginning November 8, 2021, as “National Pregnancy Center Week” to recognize the vital role that community-supported pregnancy centers play in saving lives and serving women and men faced with difficult pregnancy decisions.
- S. 1325: “A bill to ensure that women seeking an abortion are informed of the medical risks associated with the abortion procedure and the major developmental characteristics of the unborn child, before giving their informed consent to receive an abortion.”
- S. 1144: “Protect Funding for Women’s Health Care Act”
- S. 401: “Conscience Protection Act of 2021”
- S. 293: “Dignity for Aborted Children Act”
- S. 124: “Abortion Is Not Health Care Act of 2021”
- S. 88: “Title X Abortion Provider Prohibition Act”
- S. 77: “Protecting Life and Integrity in Research Act of 2021”
- S. 78: “SAVE Moms and Babies Act of 2021”
- S. 92: “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2021”
- S. 99: “Life at Conception Act of 2021”
- S. 75: “Protecting Individuals with Down Syndrome Act”
- S. 137: “Protecting Life in Foreign Assistance Act”
- S. 1382: “A bill to amend the Small Business Act to prohibit abortion providers from receiving a covered loan under the paycheck protection program, and for other purposes.”
