In a recent FITSNews op-ed, Students for Life Action (SFLAction) President Kristan Hawkins and I called on South Carolina Speaker Murrell Smith Jr. and House Judiciary Chairman Weston Newton to do what’s right and bring H. 3457 the Human Life Protection Act to a vote.
This bill would prohibit all abortions except in cases of medical necessity.
“No more excuses, no more compromising family and pro-life values that you say you stand for,” we said.
The Human Life Protection Act is a “straightforward bill that does what every so-called pro-life lawmaker claims to support: ends the violence of abortion in a state that says it values life.”
SFLAction even went to the South Carolina Republican Convention last month, and many of the voters we spoke to support the Human Life Protection Act and even testified in favor of it.
Instead of listening to voters, however, South Carolina lawmakers voted to boost their own salaries by 80% and fund state employee health insurance that pays for abortions.
Again, we remind Speaker Smith and Rep. Newton that South Carolinians are watching, and it’s time to finally bring this bill to a vote to save the lives of over 3,000–5,000 babies.
