A pro-life Democrat is a rare thing these days. In the 1990’s, they were once the party that stated abortion to be “safe, legal, and rare.” That once “moderate” view since gave way to “without restriction and without apology.” The Democrats truly became the party of limitless and late-term abortions.
So, it should come as no surprise when pro-life Democrats defect. According to news report by KETV Omaha: “Nebraska state Sen. Mike McDonnell, a Democrat, announced on Wednesday that he will switch his party registration to Republican.
According to KETV, McDonnell stated that he’d been a registered Democrat since 1984. But, in recent years, the issue of abortion has alienated him within his party.
“”I have asked the Democratic Party to respect my religious-based pro-life position. Instead, over the last year, they have decided to punish me for being pro-life,” McDonnell said. “The Douglas County Democrats voted not to seat me as a delegate and not to share party resources with me because I am pro-life.”
McDonnell also said the state Democrats voted to censure him because of his views on abortion.
WOWT noted that McDonnell has voted for legislation limiting abortion access and so-called ‘gender-affirming’ care for transgender people.”
Of course, Sen. McDonnell finding a new, more welcoming pro-life home in the Republican Party makes sense given the Democrats most recent record on abortion. The Democrat Party’s signature abortion law, The Women’s Health Protection Act , would allow abortions up until birth nationwide, without any ability for the states to push back, demand taxpayer funding, and trample on the conscience rights of medical professionals. A solid majority of Democrats voted against opposition the Born Alive Infants Protection Act, which would protect babies born during botched abortions.
Even the Federal Government is crawling with pro-abortion extremists. All Democrat appointees from Joe Biden, including at The Department of Health and Human Services, the US Surgeon General, the Treasury Secretary, and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, among others. The military likewise is infected with this madness and for the first time in its history is offering abortion services.

To be fair, Nebraska’s Republican Party has its own issues. State Senator Merve Riepe, who Students for Life Action (SFLAction) identified as one of “Bidens Favorite Republicans,” stabbed the pro-life movement in the back and joined the pro-abortion Democrats to filibuster the Nebraska Heartbeat Abortion Prevention Act. Without his support, it failed to pass, though it had the support of Nebraska’s pro-life Democrat McDonnell.
