Campaign Stops Show Candidate Priorities — That’s Why We’re Excited to See DeSantis Visit a Pregnancy Resource Center

When candidates make campaign stops, they’re also showcasing their priorities to voters — which is why Students for Life Action (SFLAction) was excited to see current Florida governor and presidential-hopeful Ron DeSantis recently make one such visit to a pregnancy resource center (PRC).

While visiting Iowa with his wife and children, DeSantis found time to make a stop at the Cornerstone Pregnancy Resource Center in Storm Lake. In an article by the Des Moines Register, PRC staff spoke up how unique and special the visit to their office was, saying “they’ve never had a high-profile visitor like DeSantis” before.

The DeSantis family

The DeSantis family was given a tour of Cornerstone (which, like many other PRCs, includes medical equipment to verify pregnancy and stacks of free supplies to help support pregnant and parenting mothers), and the Register noted the DeSantis’ praise for the center’s outreach to parents.

DeSantis further clarified his approval in an interview, saying, “I think what they’re doing is really good work.” He also said that he would consider supporting federal funding for pregnancy resource centers depending on the circumstances, adding, “I definitely think this is a worthy cause.”

Voters would certainly agree. A 2022 national survey conducted by CRC Research found that nearly 65% of Americans support public funding of PRCs — and this was actually bipartisan approval of these centers. The data showed that 70% of Democrats and 62% of Republicans strongly favored using public funds for PRCs.

SFLAction getting out the pro-life vote

By providing vulnerable women and families with the resources they need to flourish and feel supported in growing their families, PRCs fill an important niche in the pro-life movement: protecting life in service.

SFLAction and SFLA are proud to stand alongside these centers, assist them in their capacity for outreach through Standing With You, and enlist students across the country to become dedicated volunteers or even employees after graduation. That’s why we’re so happy to see DeSantis right alongside us in our appreciation and support for PRCs.

Let all the GOP candidates take note: You must prioritize the pro-life movement in your campaign to win our vote.
