Since January 22, 1973, pro-lifers are used to being disappointed by our government officials. It seems that pro-abortion bills succeed, and pro-life bills fail. This does not prevent us from fighting, but it can be disappointing.

On April 6, 2021, however, pro-lifers in Wyoming saw a change of pace. The Born Alive Infant-Means of Care Act, which was vetoed last year by Wyoming Governor Gordon, was signed into law! Now in Wyoming, any baby born alive as a result of a failed abortion will be given standard medical care to preserve their lives! For weeks, the Wyoming Catholic College’s Students for Life group, Cowboys for Life, had been praying for the bill’s success and emailing our representatives to vote yes for this life-saving bill. One of our club members, had the opportunity to testify in favor of the bill during the State Senate hearings! But based on the precedent set by the Governor last year, we didn’t expect a good outcome.

Despite our many failed efforts in the past, Cowboys for Life never lost hope. We did not stop emailing, and we never stopped praying. The Born Alive Infant-Means of Care Act’s passage was a light that shined in the darkness. Its passage strengthened our pro-life beliefs and our belief in the ability of a small group of pro-life students in Wyoming to make a difference in saving the lives of the unborn. The passage of this bill will save lives and we have been given a boost of energy to continue the life-saving work of ending abortion in our lifetime.
