Students for Life Congratulates Travis Hackworth for his win in Virginia’s Special Election for State Senate District 38, “the right, pro-life choice for Old Dominion voters”

“The radical pro-abortion Governor Ralph Northam allowed voters in southern Virginia to go without representationin the state senate during the entire general assembly to date, but voters can now finally be heard and their choice is pro-life newly elected State Senator Travis Hackworth,” said Students for Life’s Kristan Hawkins.

FREDERICKSBURG, VA (03-23-2021) – Students for Life of America (SFLA) President Kristan Hawkins commended the work of sister organization Students for Life Action (SFLAction) for efforts on behalf of Travis Hackworth, who just won his seat for State Senate District 38. Hawkins noted that the advocacy “reflects a commitment by the Pro-Life Generation at the grassroots level in all 50 states to engage in pro-life activism, to rebuild a culture that protects life in law as well as expand opportunity and assistance for mothers and their children, born and preborn. Travis Hackworth received a 100 % rating on Students for Life Action’s voter survey, leading SFLAction to support his campaign with investment in voter outreach. While we are not surprised that Virginia’s Governor, who callously endorsed infanticide for infants born during an abortion, seems to have needed the inventive of a lawsuit to get this election underway, Students for Life Action called on voters to send a pro-life campion to the state capitol.”

Hackworth ran against Democrat Laurie Buchwald for a seat left vacant when State Senator Ben Chafin Jr. died on New Year’s Day.

Buchwald is endorsed by NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia and “received a 100% score on NARAL Pro-Choice Virginia PAC’s candidate questionnaire and supports protecting and advancing access to reproductive freedom in the Commonwealth.” The Democratic candidate talked a lot about expanding taxpayer funding for healthcare, which in those circles includes forced funding of abortion, and supported the 2019 Medicaid expansion vote that included $6 million dollar slush fund for pro-abortion organization groups like Planned Parenthood.

Leading efforts on the ground, Titus Folks, SFLAction Grassroots Political Coordinator, noted that “Travis Hackworth’s support for building a culture of life was clear in this 100 % rating on our candidate survey where he pledges to both protect preborn life and to build a culture of life for mothers and their children, born and preborn. In the primary, all the GOP contenders expressed strong pro-life support, very encouraging for voters in that district.”
